Beach cleaning in support for World Cleanup Day 2024

Mitsui Chemicals Asia Pacific (MCAP) – 16 volunteers from the five affiliates in Singapore gathered on 7 September 2024 early morning at Punggol Beach to complete the Mitsui Chemicals Group Clean-up Caravan 2024. Mr Takayuki Inagaki, Managing Director for MCAP, and Mr Loh Boon Chye, President for SDC Technologies Asia Pacific, also participated in the cleaning.
After more than an hour of physical trash picking along the beach, the group of volunteers collected a total 210kg of trash. The haul included items such as plastic containers, aluminium cans, fishing lines, glasses bottles, and many more.

"It is not about Japanese cleaning up Singapore, but it is about people cleaning the coast because we are all connected by the seas,” encouraged Mr. Inagaki at the opening debrief to all volunteers. “Let us all do our best and pick up as much as we can!”

This clean-up activity was also part of the group’s effort in support of World Cleanup Day 2024 on 20 September 2024.
About Mitsui Chemicals Group Clean-up Caravan
The Mitsui Chemicals Group Clean-up Caravan is the marquee clean-up event that first started back in April 2019, with various affiliates around the World putting in their effort to help with area cleaning and prevent uncollected litter from being blown into rivers by the wind and eventually flow into the sea, exacerbating the problem of marine litter.
For the group of affiliates in Singapore, employees are encouraged to participate in the clean-up activities, to better appreciate the litter problems and to help spread words to everyone about the importance of proper trash disposal and recycling.
