Mitsui Chemicals, Inc.

Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. (location: Minato-ku, Tokyo; president & CEO: Tsutomu Tannowa) announced that Advanced Composites, Inc. (location: Ohio, the U.S.; president: Keiji Site; hereafter, “ACP”), its U.S. subsidiary, was granted the “2016 Supplier of the Year” award by General Motors Company (hereafter, “GM”), a U.S. automotive manufacturer, on Thursday, March 31, 2017. Having been awarded this honor in 2012, 2013 and 2015, ACP was given this award for the fourth time in two consecutive years.

The Mitsui Chemicals Group has enhanced its measures for the global expansion of its polypropylene automotive materials business, which is used for exterior bumpers and interior applications. Currently, it has manufacturing and sales bases in eight regions worldwide (Japan, the U.S., Mexico, Brazil, Europe, India, Thailand and China). It is further strengthening this business to obtain world-class competitiveness.

“We have selected 118 winners from among approximately 20,000 suppliers, and these are ‘the best of best suppliers,’ so to speak. ACP contributes to our business expansion in Asia and Europe as well as in North America. I hope we can build an even better relationship with the company,” said Christopher Naegeli, GM Executive Director, Global Thermal Systems, Raw Materials Purchasing, about the granting of the award. Only two resin manufacturers, ACP and Swiss-based EMS-CHEMIE, were among the award winners this year. This indicates a high evaluation of ACP and its products.

The Mitsui Chemicals Group will continue to enhance its systems for manufacturing, sales and technological services, which are aimed at providing high-quality products, and will aggressively promote measures for further global expansion and enhancement of the polypropylene automotive materials business.
